Məsələn, kriket de fakto ABŞ və İngiltərədə milli idman növü, lakros və buzüstü hokkey isə de yure Kanadanın milli idman növü hesab olunur. Milli idman növlərinin hər hansı ölkədə lazımi səviyyədə oynanılmaya bilər, sadəcə həmin ölkənin mədəniyyətində əhəmiyyətli rol oynaması kifayətdir.
